Overview
The 2025 Chevrolet Suburban emerges as a testament to how far full-size SUVs have evolved. As I walked around this behemoth during the preview event, it became clear that Chevrolet has raised the bar significantly. The new Suburban doesn’t just grow bigger – it grows smarter, more sophisticated, and more capable than ever before. The Suburban’s extended wheelbase gives it additional room for passengers and cargo, even though it shares a platform with the shorter Tahoe SUV.
A diesel inline-six and two separate gasoline-powered V-8 engines are available, and they are all connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Although the Suburban has the longest history, there is fierce competition from other large SUVs like the Ford Expedition Max and the Jeep Wagoneer L.
What’s New for 2025?
The most striking updates for 2025 Chevrolet Suburban start with the massive 17.7-inch center touchscreen – the largest in its class. Having spent time with both the outgoing and new models, I can attest that this isn’t just about size – the interface is notably more intuitive. The exterior receives a comprehensive refresh with new grilles, fascias, and lighting signatures across all trim levels. For the first time ever, 24-inch wheels are available on RST and High Country trims.
The diesel powertrain gets a welcome boost, now offering 305 horsepower – a 10% increase from the previous generation. Perhaps most significantly, Suburban now includes standard Adaptive Cruise Control and HD Surround Vision across all trims, reflecting Chevrolet’s commitment to safety technology democratization.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
After extensive testing across various terrains, I can confirm the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban’s powertrain lineup remains impressively versatile. The standard 5.3L V8 (355 hp, 383 lb-ft) proves more than adequate for daily driving, while the 6.2L V8 (420 hp, 460 lb-ft) delivers commanding performance that makes this massive SUV feel surprisingly athletic.
However, the star of the show might be the enhanced Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel. Now available on the Z71 trim for the first time, it delivers 305 horsepower and a class-leading 495 lb-ft of torque. During my test drive, the diesel’s refined character and effortless torque delivery made it my personal favorite for long-distance cruising.
The available Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension deserves special mention. When testing on rough Michigan back roads, the system’s ability to adjust ride height and damping on the fly transformed what could have been a jarring experience into a remarkably composed ride.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban continues to impress with best-in-class cargo volume at 144.5 cubic feet. During my week with the High Country trim, the premium materials and attention to detail stood out – particularly the authentic wood décor and perforated leather seats with unique stitching. The new Sky Cool Gray interior option on the Premier trim adds a contemporary touch that brightens the cabin significantly.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The technological leap forward is substantial. The standard Google built-in system eliminates the need for phone mirroring in many situations, providing real-time traffic updates and natural voice commands. The combination of the 11-inch digital instrument cluster and the massive 17.7-inch center display creates a thoroughly modern command center.
Super Cruise availability on multiple trims (LT, RST, Premier, and High Country) is a game-changer for long-distance travel. During my 500-mile test route, the system’s ability to handle lane changes while trailering demonstrated how far this technology has come.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Chevrolet has made a strong statement by standardizing several advanced safety features. The new Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking joins an impressive suite of standard safety technology. The available Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist proved particularly useful when maneuvering this large SUV in tight urban environments.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Chevrolet backs the 2025 Suburban with their standard warranty package, which includes:
Limited vehicle warranty: 3 years/36,000 miles
Powertrain warranty: 5 years/60,000 miles
Complimentary maintenance: First visit included
An 8-year OnStar One Essentials subscription comes standard
The diesel engine carries additional coverage specifics that merit consideration for long-term ownership planning.
