DIY Reset for the Oil Change “MAINT REQD” Light on a 2007–2011 Toyota Camry

Introduction

On 2007–2011 Camry models, the “MAINT REQD” light is a mileage-based reminder for oil service, not a failure warning. Once the oil change is complete, you can reset this light with the odometer button in less than a minute.

Tools and prep

  • Ignition key
  • Parked on level ground with the transmission in Park
  • Doors closed, so no extra chimes distract you

Step-by-step: Resetting the MAINT REQD light

  1. Turn the key to ON
  • Insert the key and turn it to ON without starting the engine.
  • You should see all the warning lights illuminate briefly.
  1. Select “Trip A”
  • Use the trip/ODO button to cycle through ODO, Trip A, and Trip B.
  • Stop when Trip A is displayed on the cluster.
  1. Turn the key OFF
  • Turn the ignition fully to OFF while Trip A is still displayed.
  1. Press and hold the trip/ODO button
  • Press and hold the same button you used to select Trip A.
  • Keep holding it down firmly.
  1. Turn the key back to ON (still holding the button)
  • While holding the button, turn the key to ON, again without starting the engine.
  • The MAINT REQD light will begin to flash, and the odometer will show a series of dashes and zeros as it resets.
  1. Wait for the light to turn off
  • Keep holding the button until the MAINT REQD light goes out and the odometer returns to normal.
  • Release the button, then start the engine to verify the light stays off.

When you should reset it

  • Immediately after each oil change and filter replacement.
  • Do not reset if you intentionally postponed service; the reminder is there for engine health.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Wrong display: The reset usually only works when Trip A is selected, not ODO or Trip B.
  • Timing: If you let go of the button too soon or start the engine, the sequence will fail—just switch off and try again.
