How to Reset the Oil Maintenance Light on a 2012–2017 Toyota Camry

Introduction

The 2012–2017 Camry generation blends analog gauges with a more modern multi-information display. However, the oil maintenance reset is still simple once you know where to look. After you change the oil, resetting the reminder keeps your service interval tracking accurate and prevents a constant “maintenance required” message.

Tools and prep

  • Smart key or standard key
  • Vehicle in Park with the parking brake set
  • Steering wheel controls and trip button within reach

Method 1: Trip button reset (standard method)

  1. Turn the ignition to ON
  • Press the start button twice without pressing the brake, or turn the key to ON.
  • Do not start the engine.
  1. Show the odometer (ODO)
  • Use the trip/ODO button to display the standard odometer reading.
  1. Turn the ignition OFF
  • Once ODO is displayed, switch the ignition back to OFF.
  1. Press and hold the trip/ODO button
  • Press and hold the button with your finger.
  • Keep it held down.
  1. Turn the ignition to ON while holding
  • While holding the button, turn the ignition to ON again without starting the engine.
  • Watch for the dashes and zeros on the odometer as the system counts down.
  1. Wait for the light to reset
  • When the display returns to normal and the maintenance light goes out, release the button.
  • Start the engine to confirm the maintenance message is gone.

Method 2: Using steering wheel controls (on some trims)

On certain 2015–2017 trims with a more advanced multi-information display, you may see a Settings or gear icon in the cluster. These models can reset scheduled maintenance through the menus.

  1. Turn ignition ON (engine can be running or just ON)
  • Use the start button or key to turn the car on.
  1. Use steering wheel arrows to open the Settings/gear menu
  • Tap the left/right arrows until you see a gear icon or “Settings.”
  • Use the up/down arrows to highlight “Vehicle Settings” or “Maintenance.”
  1. Select maintenance reset
  • Enter the Maintenance or Scheduled Maintenance section.
  • Choose “Reset” or “Reset Data,” then confirm “Yes” when prompted.
  1. Verify the reset
  • Back out of the menu and confirm that the maintenance reminder is cleared on the screen.

Best practice after every oil change

  • Log the date and mileage in a notebook or phone app along with performing the reset.
  • Stick to 5,000-mile service checks even if you use longer-life oil, since the reminder and inspection schedule are tuned around that interval.
